Giants Ease Off the Pads at The Greenbrier; Backfield Still the Story

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va., Aug. 6 — The New York Giants held their eighth training camp practice of the summer Thursday at The Greenbrier Resort, in a session open to the public. After three consecutive fully padded practices — the league maximum — the team worked in helmets and shells for a 137-minute walk-through.

The roster shifted again. New York signed rookie free agent fullback Grant Finley and waived tight end Tyler Moore. Finley, listed at 6-foot-4 and 281 pounds, worked out for the Giants at both the rookie and veteran minicamps this spring and played primarily defensive line at Missouri Western State, with limited time at fullback. Moore, 6-5 and 255 pounds, had signed as an undrafted free agent in late July.

Cornerback Andru Phillips sat out with a mild right knee sprain. Head coach John Harbaugh said Phillips would also miss Friday's practice but is expected to be fine. Cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse was held out as well with what Harbaugh described as a recurring knee issue. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, working his way back from a knee injury, took part in individual drills and in some walk-through team periods against the defense.

Elsewhere, receiver Malachi Fields worked with the first-team offense, while Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II again lined up as the starting outside cornerbacks. The offense repped the tush push with Patrick Ricard taking the snap. Ricard, a six-time Pro Bowl fullback who spent his first nine NFL seasons with Harbaugh in Baltimore, signed a two-year deal with the Giants in March.

The ground game remains the most closely watched part of first-year offensive coordinator Matt Nagy's installation. SNY's Connor Hughes reported after the first week of camp that Cam Skattebo has been taking the majority of the carries in running drills, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary the preferred options in passing situations. Skattebo, the No. 105 pick out of Arizona State in 2025, is in his second season; his rookie year ended with a Week 8 ankle injury after 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns in eight games. Tracy led the team with 740 rushing yards last season and Singletary added 437. New York finished fifth in the NFL in rushing at 129 yards per game in 2025, though quarterback Jaxson Dart accounted for 487 of those yards.

Dart and inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds addressed reporters after practice. The Giants return to the field Friday afternoon in another session open to the public. Their preseason opens Aug. 15 at home against Minnesota, followed by an Aug. 22 trip to Miami and an Aug. 28 meeting with the Jets.
